While I have a gas lantern to use when car camping, I much prefer something battery operated since they are generally easier to use and require less maintenance. That's how I came across the Coleman 4D Classic U Tube Lantern. This lantern uses batteries and a fluorescent light to give off enough light for most camping activities in a campground at night. Is it quite as bright as a gas lantern?
