Ellis Island
For a National Monument, Ellis Island doesn't have a lot to see or do, but you don't really need that in a place like this. Instead you can roam the halls, take a tour and look through the exhibits that are scattered throughout the building. You'll leave with a better understanding of what all those immigrants experienced and went through as they tried to start new lives in America. Not only that, but you might find a piece of your own family history, since they say about 40% of the US population can trace their ancestry through people who came through Ellis Island.
