Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site - Saugus, Massachusetts

photoThe Saugus Iron Works is a small National Historic Site located in Saugus on the North Shore of Massachusetts.  Back in the 1600s, this site represented the first development of an ironworking site in the colonies and led eventually to the development of smaller ironworks throughout the rest of the colonies.

I had heard about the Iron Works and saw the signs as I would be driving to Maine, but I never stopped.  I am glad that I finally did.  I found it to be an interesting site that offered a great reconstruction of what the Iron Works would have looked like when they were in operation during the 1600s.
