MSR BlackLite Classic Cookset

Considering getting yourself a new backpacking cookware set? If you have the money, MSR’s BlackLite Classic Cookset will provide you with many years of service in the backcountry.

There are a number of things to consider when shopping for a backpacking cookset – most importantly the quality of the cookset and its weight since you’re going to have to lug it around with you in your backpack.

On both of those measures, the MSR BlackLite Classic Cookset is an excellent choice for a backpacker looking for a new cookset who wants a set that will last through years or use and won’t weigh them down.

Cookset Basics

The MSR BlackLite Classic Cookset is about as basic as you can get when it comes to cooksets. You get both a 1.5 and a 2-liter aluminum pot with a lid that fits both of them, along with a pot lifter, a stuff sack and a special ‘packtowel’ to separate the pots when you have them packed. The whole package weighs in at just over a pound (1 pound, 2 ounces to be exact) and when the pots are nested together and stored in the stuff sack, the entire package is about seven and half inches in diameter and about three and a half inches in depth.

Solution To Minimize Teflon Damage:

1) Use silicon utensils instead of rigid plastics.

2) Pad the potgrabber clamps(4 contact points) with silicon pads.
