While advertised for its haze reducing capabilities, the vast majority of people get a UV filter for their SLR camera lens because they want to protect the lens from scratches and dirt.
That was the reason I purchased the 77mm UV filter from Hoya. I had just purchased a new lens and I wanted to make sure it would have as much protection as possible.
Not only that, there is something to be said about the haze reducing abilities of the filter, even if its not anything amazing, especially considering how hazy it is nowadays almost everywhere.
