For me, Roger Penrose's The Road to Reality was a hard read. Not so much because I wasn't interested in the material, but because I was never one to really master calculus and more advanced mathematics. That was a problem because to truly understand and comprehend what Penrose is trying to say, you really need to have a fairly deep knowledge of mathematics.
Did it make it a book I couldn't or didn't want to read? No, I just tried to make my way through the more robust mathematical discussions and spent more time instead on his less mathematically inclined sections.
