High Falls Gorge - Wilmington, New York

2003 Adirondack Vacation
Visiting the Lake Placid region and looking for an outdoor adventure? High Falls Gorge in Wilmington, just to the east of Lake Placid and near Whiteface Mountain is an interesting and fun place to stop. The Ausable River in Wilmington Notch where the river drops in a series of waterfalls and enters a narrow gorge and you get to experience via a network of trails that take you along the edge and through the gorge on bridges and walkways.

It's a good way to spend a few hours and experience the natural beauty of the area. You have the High Falls Gorge around you and Whiteface Mountain looming above. The area is mostly part of the Adirondack Park (except for the gorge itself) so besides the bit of development around the High Falls Gorge, you have a completely natural area.
